What does it mean to be evangelizing & witnessing to those in Cults? In simple terms that means that we obey the Biblical teachings for going into all the world with the message of salvation and witnessing to those involved in Cults. There are many people who are involved in some form of a non Christian Cult, (Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Seventh Day Adventists, etc) whom on a regular basis share their faith in attempts to convert them. Sadly, they are lost and do not know Jesus. (2 Cor. 11:3-4) Our responsibility as followers of Jesus Christ is to be reaching the lost and those involved within religious non Christians Cults with the truth of the Gospel.
The Bible instructs Christians to be Jesus’ Witnesses and to Defend the Faith
“but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence” (1 Peter 3:15 NASB)
“19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20 NASB)
“8 but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”” (Acts 1:8 NASB)
“Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.” (Jude 1:3 NASB)
What non-Christian Cults do everyday
Everyday those involved with non Christian Cults & Sects go out sharing their faith by knocking on doors, going to parks, to hospitals, airports, libraries, homes, churches, and other places. You may ask, Who are these non Christian Cults? Some of them are the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, Oneness Pentecostals, Word Faith teachers, Seventh Day Adventists, and Christian Scientists. That is a small list of the more common Sects, but there are many more groups out there spreading deception and false teachings that are leading people astray.
The late Dr. Walter Martin said, “Are we willing to do for the truth what the Cults do for a lie?” Dr. Walter Martin was known as the Bible Answer Man and founder of the Christian Research Institute (CRI) for many years before passing away in 1989. What Dr. Walter Martin said is a very challenging statement in which we need to think about. Are we willing? Are you willing?
Witnessing to Cults (how to witness to Cults) & How to reach the lost with the Gospel
- Being people of prayer and seeking God in how we share the gospel with them. We can pray for them come to know the grace and truth of the Gospel.
- Studying the Bible and becoming more informed on knowing what we believe as Christians.
- Knowing the false teachings & doctrines that separates a person from being a Christian. Some of them would be like rejecting the Trinity, rejecting salvation by grace, rejecting Jesus as being the only way unto the Father, rejecting Jesus being the only begotten Son of God in the flesh, and those who reject Jesus’ shed blood atoning for all sins.
- Becoming properly informed you will know how to witness to those in non Christian Cults & Sects
- Being patient and showing genuine love.
- Being bold for the faith, but at the same time respectful.
These are very important things when it comes to witnessing to those whom are lost ,and evangelizing the Cults, and defending the faith. The Christian Church (all those who are truly of Christ) needs to wake up and respond to the call of evangelizing the Cults and the lost.
There is a cost for witnessing to those in Cults and defending the faith. People may laugh at you, they may mock you, they may turn away from you and they may hate you, you may be persecuted, but the reward is worth it. The reward is knowing that people have been set free from false teachings concerning Jesus and the Gospel and sin, and that they become born again in Christ.
