Living for Christ Jesus can be tough at times, as it should be. Through out the centuries Christians have struggled in their faith, at times persecuted, and they have been martyred. Today’s Berean Perspective audio podcast focuses on things that hinder the Christian walk such as spiritual deception, laziness, backsliding, falling away, and worldly distractions. If we have a wrong perspective in life we will be led astray, even at times believe false teachings and doctrines. It is important to seek the Lord and read the Bible for daily strength and guidance. Let the Word renew your mind, rebuild your life, and revive your faith in Christ Jesus.

- Spiritual Deceptions Come From A Wrong Perspective – movements stress one cannot understand the Bible without their church, leaders, or so to speak their glasses…
Comment from a Roman Catholic: “2 Peter 1:20: “You must understand this, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation.” I don’t know how you get from this that the verse is saying prophecy is not a private matter! To me it is clearly condeming the private interpretation of scripture. In any case the fact that we need a church to teach us what scripture means is obvious”
My thoughts: “One more thought concerning 2 Peter 1 and those whom he was writing to. There were movements at that time then that would of had private interpretations of prophecy concerning Jesus, for example the Gnostics. They believed in special elite knowledge that supposedly received from God that others did not, and they were superior in their attitudes, and they were a small group that wanted to keep things to themselves. Point being, what Peter wrote dealt with their testimony of being first hand witnesses of Jesus, hearing the Father, and affirming that the prophecy of Jesus’ coming has come, thus it is no longer a mystery or private, but now to be known and declared.”
Comments from some Mid Acts Dispensationalists: “you say mid acts people twist the scriptures-thats cute, because for years i was an acts 2 christian, expounding the scriptures from a typical ‘fundamentalist’position and after taking a long look at the bible from an Acts9 position,i realised i had been the one twisting the scriptures.i went into all the suppositions you went at ,and after letting scripture interpret scripture[like i thought i had been],i came away from the ‘Acts 2-one gospel’position, and now,i look back at the defence of ‘one gospel’ by sincere christians, and i wonder how i ever took in a shonky, shallow position of Acts 2-one gospel’.Also,i have had the privilege of seeing many other acts 2 -one gospel christians look at the issue and come away from that angle”…and from another person “Kelly is unwilling to see the truth. He prefers tradition. He believes that Paul was under the authority of James (not one of the twelve). Paul clearly explains in Galatians 1:18 that he received direct revelation from Jesus Christ apart from the twelve”
My thoughts are as follows: The problem is not understanding the gospel, and from those in Mid Acts they have been taught to see the Scriptures a specific way, like other movements. (Calvinist’s, Catholics, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Mormons, etc) The gospel of Jesus Christ is the same with the disciples whom Jesus sent out after His resurrection, and Paul was in agreement. The early disciples met Jesus, were mentored by Jesus, and then after the resurrection received the Holy Spirit. (John 20:22/ Luke 24:44-49/ 1 Corinthians 15:1-8) Did Paul really preach another gospel from what Peter taught? If that is true, in how the Mid Acts Dispensationalists teach, then we have Paul condemning Peter in the book of Galatians 1:6-9!!! Again, the problem is the glasses in which the Mid Acts folks have to read the Scriptures.
Also compare what Peter taught with Acts 2:38-39, Acts 10:43-48, Acts 15:7-11, 1 Peter 1:1-12, 2 Peter 3:14-18 and see what Peter taught concerning the gospel as a whole!”
- Laziness, Backsliding, Falling Away, Worldly Distractions – In a world full of lust, pride, greed, self satisfaction, it is a daily war to live for Christ no matter where one lives in the world.
Renew Your Mind
“1 Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. 3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.” Romans 12:1-3 NASB
Rebuild Your Life
“7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” Galatians 6:7-9 NASB
Revive Your Faith
“37 Turn away my eyes from looking at vanity, And revive me in Your ways. 38 Establish Your word to Your servant, As that which produces reverence for You.” Psalms 119:37-38 NASB
- Today’s focus was about three things from the Bible. First, seeking God’s guidance through the Word to renew our minds, to get a proper perspective in life, both spiritually and naturally. Second, to be seeking the things that will build up our lives spiritually, and to avoid things that causes fleshly corruption. Third, to be revived in our faith through the Lord’s guidance in our lives, in which we devout ourselves to things that produce genuine reverence for Him, and turn away from the things that are vanity. (also deception, worthless, etc)
I pray that this helps any of you out there whom may be struggling in your faith, whom have backslidden, fallen away for a time, or have been deceived spiritually in some form that has lead you astray. May you get into the Bible, read the Scriptures and seek the Lord’s guidance and strength. If you have any questions or comments please share them.
“14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” 2 Peter 3 NASB
