Salvation, The Bible

Did Jesus die for Everyone? Did Jesus die for the Whole World?

Did Jesus die for everyone? This is a common question discussed and debated among those of Calvinist and Arminian camps. Another way to present this is to ask, when Jesus came to this world some 2000 years ago did He die for the sins for the whole world (all mankind) or a selected few known as the elect? This debate has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years, and will continue until Jesus comes back. So when sharing the good news of Jesus Christ, the Gospel message of His death, burial, and resurrection, is that message for anyone to be saved or is the gospel of Jesus Christ not for anyone to be saved? The following Scriptures from the Bible demonstrate that yes Jesus did die for everyone, that yes Jesus did die for the whole world, and yes the Gospel of Jesus Christ is for anyone to be saved. (Isaiah 53:6,Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47, John 1:29, John 3:16, John 4:42, John 12:47, Romans 10:13, 2 Corinthians 5:19, 1 Timothy 2:6, 1 Timothy 4:10, Titus 2:11, Hebrews 2:9, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 John 2:2, 1 John 5:13, Revelation 3:20)

Did Jesus Die For Everyone?

Isaiah 53:6, John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:19, 1 Timothy 2:6, Hebrews 2:9

3 He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. 4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. 6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him. Isaiah 53:3-6

14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:14-18

14 For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; 15 and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. 16 Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. 17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-21

1 First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time. 1 Timothy 2:1-6

9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. Hebrews 2:9

Did Jesus Die for the Whole World?

John 1:29, John 3:16, John 4:42, John 12:47, 1 Timothy 4:10, Titus 2:11, 1 John 2:2

29 Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world John 1:29

14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; 15 so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.
16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:14-18

42 It is no longer because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves and know that this One is indeed the Savior of the world. John 4:42

47 If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. John 12:47

10 For it is for this we labor and strive, because we have fixed our hope on the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of believers 1 Timothy 4:10

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men Titus 2:11

2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world 1 John 2:2

Is the Gospel for anyone to be Saved?

Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47, Romans 10:13, 2 Peter 3:9, 1 John 5:13, Revelation 3:20

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age Matthew 28:19-20

15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation Mark 16:15

47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. Luke 24:47

9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; 13 for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.” Romans 10:9-13

9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

10 The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. 11 And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:10-13

20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. Revelation 3:20

Did Jesus die for Everyone? Did Jesus die for the Whole World? Is the Gospel for anyone? These questions that have been debated by those who are Calvinist and Arminian. The answer to each of these questions is a Biblical yes! Yes, Jesus died for everyone, that is the heart of the gospel message. The love of God, as taught in the Bible, is that God desires none to be lost and the invitation is truly for anyone to be saved, not just the elect. When Jesus was sent from God the Father His mission was give give His life as a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world, and to bring reconciliation to the world. Simple put, the gospel message is that Jesus Christ gave His life for the sins of the world, and that this invitation is for anyone to either accept to receive eternal life and forgiveness of sins or to reject and be lost in their sins.
